WORK IN PROGRESS - REMAINING DATES TO BE ADDED SOON.

1992
The year in which the band is founded. Warren and Jim also join David McComb's Blackeyed Susans.

Brief early history. Mick Turner (born in Black Rock-Melbourne): starts his musical career as member of the Melbourne SS in 1979, with Dugald McKenzie. The next band he joins were the Sick Things (1979-1982, with a slight return in 1988). Several members of the Sick Things, inluding Mick, formed the short-lived Spew Forth in 1982 before establishing Fungus Brains (1982-1989). During the same period he also joins Dave Graney's Moodists, with which he's touring overseas for the first time (UK, Europe and US in 1983-1984). When Fungus Brains are on hold Mick forms Venom P. Stinger (1986-1991), a band with Dugald McKenzie, Alan Secher-Jensen and drummer Jim White.

Jim White (born in Clifton Hill-Melbourne): starts his musical career as member of the Happy Orphans in 1980, with Conway Savage (later of Bad Seeds fame). The next band he joins are People With Chairs Up Their Noses (1981-1982). From 1982-1984 he's drumming for the Feral Dinosaurs, a band again with Conway Savage. In 1984 he's briefly in Brainshack, a band with Fungus Brains members (excluding Mick). He joins Mick Turner in Venom P. Stinger (1986-1991), a band which also briefly tours the US in 1991. In 1989 he's in the short-lived Hessian Sax, followed by a recording session for King Idiot in 1991. In 1992 he joins Warren Ellis and John Rowell in the short-lived Busload Of Faith, taking over drums from Tony Pola (Beasts Of Bourbon).

Warren Ellis (born in Ballarat 1965): starts his musical career in a school band called Paranoid. They only do live performances (1985-1986), but never recorded. In 1986 he's also briefly in These Future Kings. By 1989 Warren leaves Australia for Europe and lives for 9-10 months from busking in the streets and bars in Greece, Hungary, Scotland and Ireland, at some point even living in a whisky distillery. It's during this period that he learned to play the violin properly and to appreciate the impact of folk songs on people. After returning to Melbourne he's working as a kitchenhand and cleaner, followed by a stay in Gippsland, in country Victoria, where he teaches violin for 18 months. In 1992 he returns to Melbourne and joins John Rowell and Jim White, who replaced Tony Pola, (of Beasts Of Bourbon/Surrealists fame) in the short-lived Busload Of Faith.

When a friend opens a bar, the Baker's Arms on Victoria Street, he asks Warren for a band to play live background music. Warren asks Jim White and Jim asks Mick Turner. They rehearse some tunes and perform the same night in front of an audience of 3 friends or so. Their residency at Bakers Arms bar allows them to experiment with improvised music.
