Los Angeles 1978. Jeffrey forms his first band The Red Lights (later renamed to The E-Types), a power pop group with Anna Statman (later A&R for Slash records and Interscope) on bass. They play at the Whisky a Go Go once (Theresa K took pictures,now lost). An unreleased demo of the group survives. "Debby By The Christmas Tree" is one of their songs. "Jungle Book" another. Jeffrey meets Brian Tristan (later a.k.a. Kid Congo Powers) from being in the early LA punk scene and going to lots of concerts (a.o. Television at the Roxy in June 1978 and Pere Ubu at the Whisky in August 1979). |

In 1979 Jeffrey Lee Pierce together with Brian Tristan, Johnny Nation (later in Lydia Lunch's 13.13) and Brad Dunning form the rockabilly band The Cyclones. They rehearse a few times. Jeffrey asks Pleasant Gehman to sing live at their only show as support for The Go-Go's @ Gazzarri's, Los Angeles on 18-Sep-79. This concerts ends with Jeffrey and Johnny having a fist-fight on stage. Both were really drunk. |

June 1980, Brad and Don decide to leave the band (they both had proper jobs and needed to make money to survive) and the rhythm section (Rob Ritter and Terry Graham) of The Bags offers to take their places. According to Terry this happened after a show @ the "Hong Kong Cafe when Gun Club opened for the Blasters" according to other sources this happened at Hong Kong Cafe when Gun Club opened for the Bags. |

December 1980. Brian Tristan leaves the Gun Club and changes his name to Kid Congo Powers. His first show with The Cramps would be on the 14th of December @ The Lyceum, London [with Wasted Youth and The Polecats] and he would leave The Cramps in September 1983. The Gun Club is put on hold for several weeks. Jeffrey Lee Pierce takes a job at the May Company store while he continues writing for Slash magazine as 'Rankin Jeffrey Lea'. |

Late 1982/early 1983 Terry Graham and Ward Dotson leave the band. Ward goes on to form The Pontiac Brothers and later The Liquor Giants. Dee Pop leaves the Bush Tetras and joins the temporary band the Mysterious Trees with the line-up: Texacala -Linda- Jones (vocals)/Jeffrey Lee Pierce (vcls/guitar)/Jimmy Joe Uliana (a friend of Dee Pop) (bass) and Dee Pop (drums). They play several shows in New York City (CBGB's and Peppermint Lounge). Jim Duckworth [Panther Burns/Alex Chilton band] from Memphis and Dee Pop [Bush Tetras] join the Gun Club in January 1983. Patricia Morrison does not participate to the "Death Party" EP recording sessions due to logistical reasons (i.e. she was in Los Angeles). |

According to Dee Pop the band rehearsed one day (for 3 hours), then did a 5 day tour of the East coast, had 2 days off, then went off to Europe for 2 months playing on rented equipment. Dee Pop played the East Coast tour with a broken hand and then left for the European tour, still with a broken hand! |

September 1983. The "Fire Of Love" album had been released in Australia on Big Time Records. On the verge of the Australian tour, at San Francisco airport, Jim Duckworth and Terry Graham leave the band. Jeffrey gets on his flight to Melbourne. Patricia Morrison takes hers as well, but arrives a day later. Jeffrey calls Kid Congo, who by then had left The Cramps, to re-join The Gun Club. He flies in from Los Angeles and arrives on 30-Sep-83. In the meantime Terry Graham joins The Leaving Trains and records with them for their "Well Down Blue Highway" album. |
