1979 The year in which the band is founded.

Until August 1980 Lydia Lunch is living on East 12th street, New York City.
Lydia disbands Teenage Jesus in July 1979 and hooks up with George (Leonard) Scott. George Scott had moved from Iowa to NYC in 1974. Lydia [with Teenage Jesus] and George [with Jack Ruby] once shared the bill @ the Village Gate in New York City on 25-Aug-77 and had a mutual admiration for each other.
George also used to live at that same No New Wave rehearsal space on Delancey street as Lydia did.
When George left The Contortions in April 1979 (just after the "Buy" album sessions) he joined John Cale's live US touring band. One of those shows (@ CBGB's, June 1979) was released on John Cale's "Sabotage" album.
After leaving the John Cale band George forms The Raybeats, an instrumental band with Pat Irwin, Jody Harris and Don Christensen.
Together with George, Douglas Bowne (who was also in the John Cale live US touring band) and multi-instumentalist Pat Irwin [The Raybeats] Lydia records her "Queen Of Siam" solo album in September 1979.
When these sessions are done George and Lydia decide to form a band. Michael Paumgardhen and Pat Irwin are both recruited by George and Lydia brings in Jim Sclavunos [Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, Beirut Slump].
The Raybeats would exist in parallel (August 1979-August 1980) with 8-Eyed Spy.

February 1980 Because the band does not play any tracks from the just released "Queen Of Siam" album (on ZE records) ZE pulls the plug on the West cost tour. ZE Records (established by French designer Michael Zilkha and critic Michael Esteban) reportedly owes the band $4,000 [NY Rocker June 1980] According to ZE records it was the band's tour manager Bob Segerman's fault [East Village Eye 30-Mar-80].
