November 1978. Simon and Don McLennan come to Melbourne. They get stranded as they have no money for a return fare. CCS MKI breaks up. Simon stays at Bronwyn Adams place in St.Kilda. (Bronwyn who would later join the band and both would later marry).

A new band is formed. Kim Beissel joins on alto sax upon recommendation of Mick Harvey [then in The Boys Next Door]. His friend Chris Astley joins on keyboards. Not too long after, Lyndsay O'Meara moves down to Melbourne from Sydney (after Voigt/465 broke up) and joins on bass. Dan Wallace-Crabbe joins on guitar. Dan would later join The Laughing Clowns, in which his cousin was the bass player. They started rehearsing in a tiny room at Dan Wallace-Crabbe's house in (inner city) Fitzroy. They rehearsed for about six months and then gigged for about six months. In total they will only do about a dozen of live concerts. A more extensive memoir, by former band member Kim Beissel, can be found @ NoNightSweats.com.

AU Melbourne,-

Note: Chris Astley was sacked and his friend Kim Beissel leaves with him. The rest got another guy in on baritone sax for this concert. After this, the band breaks up. Lyndsay O'Meara returns to Sydney joining Wild West (1980), Pel Mel (1981) and The Tame O’Mearas (1981). Kim Beissel compiled two volumes of "Original Seeds: Songs That Inspired Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds" (1998/2004). By late 1983 Simon Bonney and Bronwyn Adams move to London. Only by 1985, C&CS (Mk III) would be erected once more.

1985
-London-

The year in Simon Bonney and Mick Harvey get together and revive the band. C&CS Mk III.

January 1985
AU Melbourne, recording 2 demos for Mute Records: "One Strip Rider" and "Adventure". Simon Bonney (vocals) and Mick Harvey (all instruments played to a click-track). Engineered by Chris Wyatt. These tracks are released on the "Rarities" album, a tape sold by the band at their live shows during the 2nd half of the 1986. Note: this demo recording could have happened as early as January 1984.

London late 1984. Ex-Birthday Party member Rowland S.Howard is recruited on guitar. After the demise of the Birthday Party in August 1983 Rowland had done basically nothing, except for guesting with Fad Gadget on stage at the Royal Albert Hall, London (on 30-Sep-83 and 01-Oct-83) in support of Siouxsie and the Banshees, joining the same Fad Gadget for the recordings of his "Gag" album in November 1983 and finally guesting at a Kas Product live concert in France in 1984. His brother Harry joins on bass. Harry had replaced Tracy Pew in The Birthday Party at several UK live concerts during April/May 1982 when Tracy was serving time in an Australian prison. Epic Soundtracks (a.k.a. Kevin Paul Godfrey) [of Swell Maps, Red Crayola and Mute Records employee] will only join on drums as of their first live gigs in May 1985. During the life span of Crime and the City Solution (1985-1991), Mick Harvey continues to play an important role in Nick Cave's Bad Seeds. He is deviding his time between Bad Seeds and Crime. As a consequence, Crime only functions around Harvey's other commitments.

Line-up #3a (London: December 1984 - February 1985):

2022/2024
-Australia/Berlin-

The year in which the band is again revived after a 10 year hiatus with a new line-up.
Touring Europe in the spring (19 dates) and again in the autumn (4 dates).
Simon and Bronwyn temporarily move back to Berlin. Start of the recording sessions for a new album ("The Killer") in Berlin.

Reformation Line-up #2A (May-Sep 2022):
Simon Bonney (vocals) and Bronwyn Adams (violin, backing vocals)
with Georgio -Valentino- Papanikos (guitar, laptop, devices)/ Donald Baldie (guitar, keyboard)/ Frederic -Lyenn- Jacques (bass, Moog synth)
and Chris Hughes (drums).

16-Oct-21 and 16-Jan-22
The band announces a European/UK tour and a new incarnation. "Before I decided to move [to Berlin], I was in the process of having yet another crack at a PhD, and for a lot of extremely boring reasons I didn't continue with it. But what I was doing was a lot of process spacing, trying to trace micro steps of how to get from point A to B, how did we get here and then you'd trace back to the key events that caused the outcome of the situation we're living with. So, I thought about Berlin looking at it through my sixty-one-year-old eyes, and how can I imagine what it was like when I was in my twenties, and you have this conversation between the creative self because it's through fragments of memories that I remember that period, but can I actually put myself in the position of the person that was living at the time?" Simon Bonney interviewed in Vive Le Rock #97, 2022.

Australian (Berlin based) Chris Hughes [Dim Locator, Hugo Race True Spirit, Fatal Shore, Once Upon A time] on drums; British-Belgian Fred -Lyenn- Jacques [Mark Lanagan Band, Dans Dans] on bass; Greek-American (Gerakas, Greece based, after a decade in Brussels, Belgium) Georgio Valentino [aka George Papanikos from the Detroit based The Valentinos] on guitar and Australian (Melbourne based) Donald Baldie [Turkeyneck Lasso, Gus Till, The Moth Body with Sam Sejavka] on guitar. Baron Anastis [Dim Locator] was replaced last minute by Frederic Lyenn Jacques.

Mute Records (UK) is preparing a reissue campaign of Crime's Berlin-era catalogue on vinyl and CD, beginning in February of 2023.
